"But this is how you walk to the end of the world. This is how you live forever. Here is one day, and here is the next, and the next, and you take what you can, savor every stolen second, cling to every moment, until it’s gone."The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab
Desperate for freedom, Addie LaRue makes a deal to live forever. But there is a catch: she is cursed to always be forgotten by those she meets. That is until 300 years later when she meets a boy at a tucked-away New York City bookstore who remembers.
V.E. Schwab (Victoria Schwab) is a best selling indie author of YA and Adult fantasy novels. The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue is her latest novel, released in October.
The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue starts off slow with little plot. For perspective, it took me over a month to read through the first 200 pages. That being said, it is beautifully written. The prose is gorgeous with is what kept me coming back to the novel when I would sit it down. While the two main characters are relatable, by far the most interesting is Luc, who I felt there was not nearly enough of. There were so many beautiful moments in the novel, some of which made me tear up.
The last 200 pages of the book is when the story truly begins and what really saved this book for me. I wanted to love it so hard just as so many others did, but it just wasn't as amazing as I thought it would be. I'm not sure if I just built it up in my head so much that it could never deliver, which is completely possible. I think that what bothered me the most was simply watching Addie wander aimlessly. There were so many times I found myself wanting to scream at her to just "do something"!
Overall, if you are in the mood to read some beautiful writing, this is for you. The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue is, in my opinion, completely worth the read to just savor Schwab's beautiful writing. But, if you want a page-turner that will keep you on the edge of your seat, you're gonna have to wade through the first 200 pages of prose to get to that.
